Hope Easter weekend was a great weekend. We had beautiful weather here in AZ.
Saturday-Took photos at the Spring BBQ for work and I met the Easter Bunny (very exciting!).
The plan for the afternoon was to go get a dog. My friend who was taking me arrived late, but that worked out because I would’ve missed seeing my oldest son, his wife, and my grand daughter who were in town.
Getting the dog turned out to be an 7 hour adventure. Her name is Shasta, and she’s a husky/malamute mix. She has realized I’m her new owner (she’s about a year and half old) and doesn’t growl and bark at me like she did at first! She figured out she can find me eventually at the computer and now her favorite spot is to lay down is under it! She was worth the trouble. She is sweet, gentle, and quiet and gets along with my three cats.
The adventure on Saturday-The owner said she lived far, but my friend thought it would make a nice day trip and knew how much I wanted a dog. The owner failed to mention that there was 20 miles of dirt road and a stream and horses running loose on the way. We had to drive into Rodeo, NM and back into Portal, AZ to get to her place. Her home was 45 minutes more minutes on dirt roads with grass growing in the center. By this time it was dark, and I mean DARK because she was in such a remote area up against the mountains. During our last call to her from a phone booth, she said she would have a candle and solar light on because her generator was broke and she had no electricity. The directions included things like “turn by the mailboxes” and “drive past the pond with trees”.
Well,we finally found it! After I met the dog, I startled the dog in the dark and it started barking at me! I wasn’t leaving without a dog, though! I made friends with some treats and she got in the car with us. She traveled well in the car (about 3 hours). We got home a little before midnight. Besides what it would take to get to where we had to go to pick her up, I had no idea she had only been in a vehicle one other time, never was on a leash, and mostly just was around her owner and 4 other dogs (one of the dogs being her mother). It must have been meant to be, because she is a good dog. She’s adjusting and loves the attention at our house. She is still a little jumpy with everything so new, but is better everyday.
Sunday-after getting my dog to stop growling at me when I woke up, we went to church in the park. Afterwards it was like an old fashion church picnic with a BBQ, egg hunt, sack races, etc! Shasta was content waiting for us and made herself at home in my yard. I have shoes for out back and she moved them to where she was laying down, but didn’t chew on them or anything
. I made dinner and had a wonderful relaxing day.
Monday-My youngest daughter spent most of Sunday with her dad, so we colored eggs and had an Easter egg hunt.
