Chris Pund had the following comment on my post Seasonal Jobs:
How did you come up these ideas? I understand that they can be done anywhere basically, but they might as well be complete opposites from each other. What was your criteria for picking them I guess? I think it’s interesting that you included working at Wal-Mart in the mix.
Instead of a long comment, I will just post the answers.
My current supervisor had second jobs with both H&R Block and Wal-Mart.
Below are the reasons for each of my choices.
Wal-Mart:
- Stress-free (compared to current job)
- Physical work (I need to get in shape and loose a couple pounds)
- Room for advancement
- Different departments (reduces boredom)
- Pay raise schedule
- One is located near my (step) dad in CO
- Heard good things from my supervisor and my (step) dad’s girlfriend who also works there
- Ability to transfer to different stores
- Seasonal hiring
- Benefits
H&R Block:
- Inexpensive education
- Possibility of year round insurance
- Seasonal
- Tax information is helpful when self-employed
- Ability to transfer
- Flexible schedule
Boy Scout Summer Camp
- I love the outdoors
- I was active in scouts when the boys were in scouting (My son and internet entrepreneur, Bob Schmuck, is an Eagle Scout!)
- Attended summer camp with my troop/sons and loved it
- Experience in boy scouts-I was a scoutmaster of a troop for 3 years
- Room and board is provided during camp
- Seasonal
BTW: Chris I like your blog Dorm Room Biz . Great information and support to help people get started. I wish I would’ve learned about all this when I was younger!
