Multiple Use

Filed under: Finacial Freedom, Instructional — Jan @ 5:20 am

Recently I have taken on a couple extra projects at my group home job.

  • Decorating and furnishing group homes
  • Assisting one of the associate directors
  • Helping my group home manager organize tasks

I also accepted a promotion to group home assistant manager. I won’t be getting an increase in pay (I just recently got a raise in October), but I will have more flexible hours and can do some work from home, so it is worth it. Plus it gives me current management experience that can help with advancement at Wal-Mart.

I’m working on multiple uses for the same base information. Bob Schmuck encourages me to create and document processes. It is one of the steps he learned from reading the “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” books, it is an important step on the road to passive income.

As I work on a project for the group home I do the following:

  • I write the process of how I go about it on my own time (so I “own” the written process). I write it in a way that anyone from any residential provider company can follow it and customize it for their company. (Used for current and future personal/online projects.)
  • This process is posted on Jan’s Group Home Support with any forms I created that would be helpful. (Used for internet and future passive income.)
  • I customize the process for the company that I work for. I do this while on the clock for the company I work for and they will “own” the customized process. (I hope to eventually be able to assist the quality control person in creating a book of procedures and resources). (Used for possible future advancement at current wage earning job.)
  • I customize any forms I created, to the company I work for. (Used for current job.)
  • I fulfill all tasks for project. (Used for current job.)
  • I share with who ever is interested how I did my project and the results. (Used for current job, test process, and get feedback.)
  • I document the skills and experience I gained doing the project. (Add to my resume for future jobs.)

So one project provides the following:

  • Job experience
  • Assistance to co-workers
  • Testing and feedback on process
  • Process
  • Content for blog
  • Resource for passive income and self-employment
  • Current job security

Think about what you already are doing. Choose task that can have multiple uses. By investing 20% more time into that task you may be able to increase your resources/output by 80% .

Ad-Aware Help

Filed under: Free Stuff, Miscellaneous — Jan @ 5:10 am

When using the free version of Lavasoft Ad-Aware, be sure to update regularly. My “ignore” list was growing and I wasn’t adding to it! Once I updated and rescanned I was able to remove tracking cookies that I couldn’t before the update.

I also found that when scanning during the day it would often get “stuck”. I don’t have that problem when I start a scan before I go to bed (usually around midnight).

I have been very happy with the free version. If I had the funds available I would pay for an upgrade with scheduled scanning.

48 Days

I haven’t set any goals yet (I’m burnt out with the two jobs especially since I’m doing some extra projects for the group home job), but the day the 48 day Challenge will begin is on February 14, 2008. With leap year this year, it will begin on the same day it did last year. Interesting how it ends up on Valentine’s Day both years. Again, I don’t have time to find someone who is a good match let alone date and develop a relationship! I guess it’s just me and my challenges again for Valentine’s Day! :)
