Preparing for 48 Days

Filed under: 48 Day Challenge, Instructional — Jan @ 8:37 am

Well, as I strolled through the footpath (literally) to my computer, stepped over art project materials,  and watched my dog lay down next to me on top of a stack of my papers, I realize if I am going to fulfill my goals for my challenge, I will need to create an environment that is orderly and will aid in success instead of hinder it.

If you are planning on beginning the challenge with me, start out by evaluating your work environment.

  • Make places to put like items (example: office supplies, bills, things to follow up on).
  • Make a list and purchase any items needed to organize like files, containers, and stackable trays.
  • Label these items Post a Notes work best incase you end up rearranging things because you under estimated the room you needed.
  • Sort  through  everything in your work space and put in their places
  • Any items that  don’t belong in the work space should be gathered in one bag or container. Do not leave the room to put them away….it’s too easy to get distracted!
  • Have a file or container for items that would take a lot of time to figure out where they belong. Sit down in front of the TV and go through that later.
  • Dust, polish, and shine everything.
  • Put permanent labels on containers, files, trays, etc.
  • Make a list in order of priority with estimated costs of things that would help you work more efficiently.
  • Purchase these items when funds become available.

I won’t be able to start cleaning today because I have to go to a staff meeting for one job then work a full shift at the other, but I hope to begin this week. Only 10 more days until the challenge begins.

I was looking back at my traffic on my sites and they all peaked last May after my “47 days until I turn 47″ challenge. I have an additional year of experience so I’m looking forward to this year’s results.
