Thanks to encouragement from my son, Bob Schmuck, I was supplementing my income pretty well writing articles and posting for others last year. I started to get too busy with wage earning and couldn’t keep up and stopped writing for pay.
Well, I want to get back to writing and earn more money from home. There is more information here if you need some articles written.
For those who want to become a writer, here is how to get started:
- Open a checking account that you will only use for writing income/expenses. Get free checking if you can. Some banks will give you free checking if you have a direct deposit from another account.
- Set up a PayPal account and link it to your new checking account. Some people have trouble with PayPal. You might want to get your money out of your PayPal account quickly and just keep a small balance in your PayPal account.
- Apply for the PayPal debit card. This card will be linked to your checking account and can be used for business expenses. It can be used like a credit card when you can’t pay with PayPal. At the end of the year, you can easily print out a record of expenses for taxes.
- Decide what you want to charge. Check out going rates and keep your introductory price a little low to get established. Once you have work coming in steadily, raise your rates. Remember those who helped you get started and delay raising their rates for few months after a price increase.
- Spread the word that you are available for writing. Have a site for your writing services or even a page on a current site or blog to link to. Post in forums like Wickedfire. Be sure you are in the appropriate section. Most forums will have a “buy, sell, or trade” area for promoting a business or service. When possible, post or link to examples of your work.
- Quote happy and satisfied customers. When you have a happy customer ask if you can post a quote. Link their name to a site of their choice if they want.
