Memorial Day

Filed under: Personal — Jan @ 9:30 pm

I didn’t post on Monday, but felt even if I posted late, I wanted to post about Memorial Day. My father, served in the Korean War. The few pictures he had of his time there burnt when his garage burnt down in Illinois. I never knew much about his service and now I wish I would’ve known more. I just emailed a cousin from his generation to see if he knew much of our families service history.

It doesn’t matter if we support the war or not, we must pray for the men there. They are there for various reasons. Many are risking their lives because in their heart they want to do what they feel is right. Others are passing time until retirement. There are some that joined the military because they felt they had no other options in their life.  All are making sacrifices, all have someone who worries about them, and all are at risk physically and emotionally. If you didn’t take a moment to remember our vets and those currently serving, I hope you take a moment and appreciate what they are doing. Say a prayer for them and their family and friends who are also making a sacrifice.

I had to work at noon on Monday so I BBQ’d before I left for work for my family and brought mine to work for my break. I made some red, white, and blue cupcakes, too. There were quite a few people shopping most of the day until about dinner time when it slowed down.

Well, my daughter is busy with her friends spending the night. I think I will use the time to get some cleaning done.

Affiliate Example

I just did a review of a blog, The 19th Floor, for Jan’s Group Home Support blog. Mark Siegel is an amazing disability advocate lawyer and a man with a great perspective on life who has a great sense of humor. As an internet entrepreneur, you may not be interested in his blog, but take a look of his use of affiliates in the right sidebar.

I want am going to do something similar when I get the chance, within the next month. I have not used affiliates much even though a year ago I signed up for everyone that I thought I could possibly use!

What I like about The 19th Floor’s use of affiliates:

  • Personal-it looks like (and probably is) Mark Siegel’s suggestions
  • Organized by topic-he has read, listen, watch
  • Limited-two per topic
  • visual-has pic of each book, CD, and movie

Sometimes I don’t want to add too much to this blog and to my Group Home Support blog because I want to change the design on both. I don’t want to have more stuff to “fix” when I do that. I have to get myself together and get the design change done or just put up the affiliates and maybe I’ll make enough money to pay someone else to change my blogs!!
