Internet Entrepreneurs and Bad Economies
It can be challenging being an Internet entrepreneur any time, but it can be more challenging during bad economic times. As an internet entrepreneur you have more control over your income than being an employee waiting for the company you work for to pull out of the slump or give up and close down. There are no guarantees about being employed.
Ways to have financial security as an internet entrepreneur during a bad economy:
- Evaluate finances
- Start new projects relevant to the times
- Evaluate entrepreneurial projects
EVALUATE FINANCES
You can ride out bad economic times as an internet entrepreneur if you keep on top of your finances and know how to get by on minimal income temporarily. If you haven’t been budgeting, it is time to start. You should know the following about your finances personally and about your entrepreneurial projects:
- Where your money is going
- The bare minimum monthly income
- Areas you can cut back and save money
Be sure to be paying bills on time so that you don’t loose money paying late fees. Have a 3 level plan for what you buy, meals, and bill paying.
- Good income with extra funds
- Adequate income with enough funds to meet expenses
- Low income with inability to meet expenses
Changing your spending and prioritizing bills will help you to ride out a bad economy. The plan can be used when wanting to save for something big. Functioning at Level 3 will lower expenses and the money saved can go towards the item.
START NEW PROJECTS RELEVANT TO THE TIMES
Bad economies provide many opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs. When people can’t afford the services and products that they are accustomed to, they will look for affordable alternatives. How to workshops, sites, and blogs all do well when people can’t afford to pay others to do services. Discount products and off brands will see a raise in sales as new customers explore alternatives to previous products are no longer fitting into budgets. Topics on savings, spending less, job searching, etc. can bring in traffic and business. Brainstorm and talk to people around you to see what the immediate needs of people are.
EVALUATE ENTREPRENEUR PROJECTS
An entrepreneurial project doesn’t have to make money to be able to not be eliminated, but it shouldn’t be costing you a lot of money to stay. Group projects together that make money at different times. Like a project that makes money on the weekend with one that makes money during the week. Evaluate project groups to see if they are at least paying for themselves or close.
Have domains, sites, or other internet projects that aren’t making money, but have potential? Think about developing them or selling them. Sometimes even if a project can sit, knowing it is there and feeling like you should be working on it can be a drain. It may drain energy from other projects that can make money now.
Sometimes it may be necessary to get a part time job to ride out the times. Don’t put it off too long, because the further in the hole you are, the harder it will be to climb out.
Projects that are making money should be worked on to make sure it will continue to make money and increase in making money. You should only have a handful of projects that have your heart but aren’t bringing in the desired income.
