This Entrepreneur Still Exists!
I’ve posted it before and I’m sure I’ll post it again on my entrepreneurial journey…but yes…I STILL EXIST and so do all my ideas! I have been busy with wage earning and self-employment work, but finally have made some time for my own projects like my blogs. I will be posting some updates in other areas this week, but for today…here are some updates on the following:
- Jan’s Writing Services
- Self-Employment
- Wage Earning
JAN’S WRITING SERVICES
Jan’s Writing Services is doing really well. I constantly struggle to keep up and it is hard to break away from income writing to write for my own entrepreneurial projects. I have two writers that write for me regularly. To maintain consistently, I read over all articles that I purchase and edit them to match my style of writing. I add a 100-300 words so that I can make a little money on those articles when I sell them. I have been using Basecamp account (the FREE Basecamp link is very small under the “Max” and “Premium” plan), Google docs, and Paypal invoicing to do the following:
- Organize
- Billing/organizing
- Receive payments
- Record keeping
- Communication
I had hoped to expand my writing business by now, but haven’t been able to.
SELF-EMPLOYMENT
The income that I am receiving from my writing is very close to being able to support me. It is currently my “full-time” job. I still work at Walmart and have been able to cut my hours to three days a week to have more time to write. Was hoping this fall to cut out Walmart all together but decided it is best to wait and re-evaluate that goal early next year, maybe a 51st birthday to myself! The following were factors in deciding to wait:
- Medical benefits
- Employee discount
- Low balance in savings account
- A couple months without child support
- The economy
They aren’t the best benefits, but I do have some medical benefits at Walmart and it would be expensive to get insurance on my own. There are a few things on my “wish list” like a new TV, camera, glasses, and contacts that my employee discount will come in handy for. I also realized I need a larger savings account and need to not be dependent on child support before I give up one of my wage earning jobs. With the current economy and unemployment rate…not wise to give up any job!
WAGE EARNING
I have taken off some time and used my vacation at Walmart to see what it would really be like to not work at Walmart and just write. Learned some things I’d have to work on, but very definable do-able! Working in group homes as relief staff works well with writing because I usually do overnights and can write part of the time. I have increased the number of nights I do overnights to build up that savings account.
Well, off to spend some time with kids!
