Work not Getting Done

Filed under: Instructional — Jan @ 4:45 am

Sitting down to the computer is a time for fun and relaxing for some people. For others, sitting at their home computer is where they conduct their online business. There can be times when the work piles up and nothing is getting done. Potential income is lost.

Most computer desks and files on the computer include three main categories of work to do:

  1. Work that needs to be done or is over due
  2. Work that it should be done
  3. Work for future projects

You may have already read all the self-help books, took ample breaks, removed distractions, and done anything else suggested from self-motivation articles and books. Yet you sit and accomplish very little to nothing on a daily basis.

The first thing to do is to check into your emotional state. The inability to work could be a temporary coping skill to deal with stress in your life or even sign of depression. If your life is going fairly normal with minimal stress, then it could be health related.

Very minimal chance you have a diagnosed illness and you only have a week to live, but little changes in diet and exercise can mean more money on line.

DIET

While most of the world struggles with their diet, internet entrepreneurs tend to not eat and live on energy drinks, finding it difficult to leave their computers. Even if they aren’t getting anything done to make money there are lots of opportunities to be distracted. Take time to eat. Focus on high protien and complex carbohydrates for blood sugar stabilizing (you don’t have to be a diabetic to need to do this). Include fruit, vegetables, and fiber to keep things moving along and reduce energy sapping toxins building up.

GENERAL HEALTH

Prevent common colds and the flu by washing hands regularly. Take suplements to boost your immune system. Keep energy levels high by getting adequate sleep, rest, and exercise. The time used to do that will make the time at the computer more financially productive. Minimize stress in your life.

EXERCISE

Even if your diet is minimal, the lack of exercise and the high calories of energy drinks can still result in a problem with being overweight and also being out of shape. Even if you can’t drag yourself away from the computer, while reading do some arm stretches and exercises. While typing do some leg stretches and exercises. Force yourself to get up from the computer chair and take a walk. Mild exercise can contribute to energy levels and mental alertness.

FUN

Include fun in every day and throughout the day. Even if you stay at your computer, research something you want to research for fun, take a virtual vacation, and maybe play some games.  This will also result in increased productivity.

Motivation and productivity isn’t accomplished by list making alone, be sure you include healthy living habits in your day.

Derailed

Filed under: Personal — Jan @ 8:59 am

It seems like I am constantly getting derailed, off track. I can’t help but wonder how far along I’d be without the big things and small things that come up that can cause a derailment. My serious personal situation that hasn’t been resolved, but was in a manageable mode. It has changed from manageable mode and to the source of a recent derailment. The past week and a half has been consuming, distracting, and emotional with it peaking yesterday. I’m up for another battle to do what is right and what is in the best interest of someone else. There is a split second occasionally when I am tempted to take the easy way out, but it is fleeting and temporary. There is not a single bone in my body that would allow me to choose that path.

Today I let myself get some sleep, write for myself a little, and will be doing some house cleaning while I get ready for some company. I took a few minutes to make a needed phone call relating to the situation. Mostly while my (step) dad is here I will enjoy family and getting the horse he is bringing for us settled. I’m going to take a break from dealing with the situation. There is nothing pressing at the moment that can’t wait until he leaves on Sunday morning.

As I dig in my heals for yet another fight related to this situation, I feel tired and am becoming exhausted. There seems like there is always something that causes a derailment of life as I know it. Not just little things, but over the years its been big things like the situation that I am currently dealing with and the following:

  • Divorce
  • Death of my mom
  • Death of my dad
  • Son diagnosed with cancer
  • Possible foreclosure of house
  • Co-worker’s death
  • Vehicle accidents
  • Son moving out of state

Sometimes there isn’t months of dealing with a situation before it occurs, like the death of my dad which was unexpected even though he was sick. With Bob’s cancer, it was nearly a year of dealing with treatment, then it was about 6 months after it was over before things seemed “normal” again. Though there are moments I have felt alone dealing with my situations over the years, I am blessed with a wonderful family and have supportive friends. In this current situation I have needed and relied on each of their unique ways of supporting me. It give me the strength to get back on track yet again.

So as I sit here and write, I have stopped wondering where I would be if I didn’t keep getting derailed and give thanks I am not where I would be if I had decided, even one time, over the years to not get back on track.
